Rootstown’s annual “Light It Up” event will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 by Town Hall at 3988 State Route 44 and the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ at 4022 State Route 44, right in the center of town.
Paris Township’s Trick-or-Treat will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. Trunk-or-Treat will be at the same time at the Shearer Community Center at 9355 Newton Falls Rd.
An update by OHM Advisors on the state Route 44 project was held Sept. 22 at Rootstown Middle School.
The state Route 44 corridor project that would give a facelift to the area in Rootstown from Tallmadge Road to Dollar General continues to be looked into. Engineering firm OHM Advisors conducted a recent study on the topic; OHM will present its findings, including community-survey results, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 at Rootstown Middle School at 4190 State Route 44.
Five townships. Five fire chiefs. Five fire stations. Finances so tight that equipment is often purchased secondhand and departments rely on part-time and volunteer personnel. Sometimes stations aren’t staffed at all.
The Paris Township Trustees are in the process of looking into joining a possible combined fire district that would include Charlestown, Palmyra, Deerfield and Edinburg.
The fourth annual Paris Township Car Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at the Shearer Community Center at 9355 Newton Falls Rd. All makes, models and years are welcome. Event highlights include:
Deerfield is one of five Portage County townships that is looking to consolidate into one fire district. The other four townships are Edinburg, Paris, Palmyra and Charleston.
Trustee Dorene Spicer has resolved the issue where calls for emergency services were going directly to herself and the fire chief’s phones. She is still working to resolve problems with faxes not being delivered properly.
The Rootstown Lions Club will be putting up banners downtown honoring local veterans leading up to Memorial Day on Monday, May 26. The banners will have the veterans’ names and photos on them.
