A little, white house adjacent to the Shearer Community Center and the fire department on Newton Falls Road that is owned by the township will be torn down at a cost of $4,500.
“We’re going to keep the property,” township Co-Chair Dave Kemble said. “We’re not going to put anything there for the time being.”
Rootstown
The hot and humid weather that has blanketed much of the country of late did not keep many people from taking part in Rootstown’s America 250 celebration on July 4 at Rootstown Community Park. Festivities included a fly-over, the dedication of a new flagpole and a car show.
“The turnout was super. The community really showed out,” township Trustee Brett Housley said. “It was really a good community event that turned out super. A big thank you to Don Boyle and his family, who organized the event and did a lot of the legwork with the Rootstown Historical Society. Everything went as planned.”
Two pickleball courts and a basketball court at the park will be ready to use soon. The base has been laid.
“The project is really coming along nicely,” Housley said. “They’re well underway.”
Edinburg
Edinburg held an America 250 ceremony and ice cream social on July 4 at the Town Hall. There were displays of photos and memorabilia that showed the history of the township.
“The day went real well,” township Trustee Chris Diehl said.
The township is purchasing a new standby generator for the fire department at a cost of approximately $15,000.
