Aurora The groundbreaking ceremony for Aurora Park at Geauga Lake took place Oct. 23. The city purchased approximately 47 acres of lakefront property at the former SeaWorld site from Industrial Commercial Properties in 2024. “It was a great event,” Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin said of the event that drew 50 to 60 people. The Aurora VFW Post 2629 and the Knights of Columbus Council 14186 have been purchasing food for the Aurora Food Pantry for several years, donating over $36,000 of perishable food yearly as one of their community projects. But the need for assistance is growing.

Aurora The City of Aurora purchased a bit more property to add to its park property at Geauga Lake. “Our new park that we’re building has a small residential street right along its border called Fairview Avenue,” Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin said. “We have, during the last year, purchased some property on Fairview, and council recently approved the city buying three vacant lots on Fairview. An in-house committee within Ravenna City Council was formed to aggressively look into constructing a new building that would be shared by the Ravenna police and fire departments. The proposed site is the property owned by the city where Ravenna High School was located.

Aurora’s annual Independence Day celebration will take place on Friday, July 4. There will be a full day of activities, entertainment and family fun. The day will begin with the Fun Run 1 Mile and 5K at Bicentennial Park. The 1 Mile starts at 8 a.m. followed by the 5K at 8:30 a.m. Registration is available in advance at runsignup.com with Early Bird pricing ending June 20. Walk-up registration will open at 7 a.m. on race morning.

Streetsboro City Council authorized participation in the Ohio Department of Transportation project scheduled for April 2026 that is going to be a complete rebuilding and resurfacing of the center of town.

Of the three bridges in Aurora that had structural issues, two have been replaced with new bridges during the last two years. The third, an 80-foot ravine bridge by the Paddock River Preserve that goes across the Chagrin River, was just approved to be built by Jagger Construction at a cost of $397,703.
