The fifth annual Paris Township Car Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the Shearer Community Center at 9355 Newton Falls Rd. The car show will benefit the Paris Township Fire Department. All makes, models and years are welcome.

Palmer then kicked off the community reports. The bulk of his report centered on a request for approval for two expenditures. The first was in the amount of $65,969 for the purchase of a power cot for the ambulance. The second was for $205,587 for a new chassis for that same ambulance.

The Rootstown Historical Society will put on the township’s America 250 celebration Saturday, July 4 at the township park.

Towner’s Woods is getting some updates, but they mean the park will be closed for the summer— and maybe longer.

The Rootstown Lions Club’s annual Rootstown Memorial Day Parade and Flag Raising will take place Monday, May 25. The parade lineup will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the NEOMED parking lot.

Palmer requested approval to transition two part-time firefighters to full-time status, effective April 1. While the fiscal officer noted that the midyear budget did not initially account for the additional salaries, approximately $500,000 in carryover funds made the hires feasible.

The Paris Township Trustees approved the use of Savvy Citizen, a free, PA-based, one-way communication app and service that allows local governments, including various townships and boroughs, to send alerts about community events, road closures and important news directly to residents via smartphone notifications, text messages or email.

Rootstown’s annual “Light It Up” event took place Dec. 6 adjacent to Town Hall and the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ right in the center of town.

Tucked into the rural countryside of Rootstown is the home of Rodhe Sport, a shot put-, hammer- and discus-throwing facility, where Olympian and inventor Justin Rodhe coaches world-class throwing athletes and handcrafts training gloves used by professional athletes around the world.  

Rootstown’s annual “Light It Up” event will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 by Town Hall at 3988 State Route 44 and the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ at 4022 State Route 44, right in the center of town.

An update by OHM Advisors on the state Route 44 project was held Sept. 22 at Rootstown Middle School.
