Averting a strike, Southeast and its teachers’ union agreed on wage increases and student discipline
Southeast teachers have reached a tentative agreement with the district’s board of education, averting a strike that could have had district students starting the year with substitute teachers.
Teachers in the Southeast Local School District have authorized their union leadership to issue a 10-day strike notice if a bargaining session set for Aug. 9 doesn’t get them closer to their requests for better working conditions.

My name is Cathy Klein and I wrote the Around Edinburg Column for the Record-Courier from 2006-2018 and am excited to be back in the saddle to spread local news and goings on in our community. I thought it might be fun to first catch you up on what has been happening with me these past five years.
Portage County’s Board of Commissioners learned in February that the federal government was cutting SNAP’s Emergency Allotment program at the end of the month. Appalled, they took matters into their own hands.
The Portage County Board of Elections released the unofficial final results of the May 2 election, which saw a voter turnout of about 14% and a total of 5,029 ballots cast.
Rootstown received initial approval for putting in walking paths around Rootstown Township Park by way of a grant from the federal government in the amount of $102,000. “The realistic timeline to get it done would probably be late fall of this year or spring of next year,” township Vice Chair Dave McIntyre said.
Paris adopted a resolution for a speed study for Gilbert Road from state Route 225 all the way over to the county line on the other side of the township.
