Around Edinburg: Pirate Day, spring cleanup and more events coming up soon

The first-ever Pirate Community Day is almost here. Come to Southeast High School at 8423 Tallmadge Rd. on Tuesday, April 23 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Southeast track. The event begins at 4 p.m.

The festivities will feature food trucks, memorabilia, and announcement of the track name and lanes. Sports taking place that day will be track, baseball, softball and lacrosse, beginning at 5 p.m. I’ve seen a few pictures from track meets that have been held there so far and it looks really great. For more information, visit the website at www.southeastpirates.org.

Coffee with the Commissioners will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at Edinburg Town Hall, located at 6856 Tallmadge Rd. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.

Edinburg Township Trash Cleanup Days will be at the end of this month. Collections will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 26, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 27 behind Edinburg Town Hall. Proof of residence must be shown — and no tires, please.

Children’s Advantage will hold its Magic Show Fundraiser at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 28 at Ravenna High School, located at 6589 N. Chestnut St. It will be an evening to share suicide prevention and education resources while bringing healing, laughter and fun to families.

In particular, the event will celebrate the life of Aaliyah Massrock, who was a 13-year-old student at Southeast Local Schools. Funds raised will be donated to Children’s Advantage to continue to provide vital mental health services to kids and families. Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased at www.magicgivesback.com.

Meanwhile, Kid Watch is still taking applications for a fun and loving child care provider for its summer program. Summer hours are usually six to eight hours a day weekdays, with a pay rate starting at minimum wage.

Kid Watch is located inside Edinburg United Church at 4081 Rock Spring Rd. For more information, call the administrator, Shelly, at 330-850-5008.
