Around Edinburg: Pirate Day, spring cleanup and more events coming up soon

The first-ever Pirate Community Day is almost here. Come to Southeast High School at 8423 Tallmadge Rd. on Tuesday, April 23 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Southeast track. The event begins at 4 p.m.

The festivities will feature food trucks, memorabilia, and announcement of the track name and lanes. Sports taking place that day will be track, baseball, softball and lacrosse, beginning at 5 p.m. I’ve seen a few pictures from track meets that have been held there so far and it looks really great. For more information, visit the website at

In particular, the event will celebrate the life of Aaliyah Massrock, who was a 13-year-old student at Southeast Local Schools.
