County roundup: Palmyra Fire Department preps for Easter egg hunt fundraiser, plus news from Edinburg, Paris and Rootstown

Palmyra

The annual community Easter egg hunt, a fundraiser for the Palmyra Fire Department, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23 at Palmyra Park on State Route 225. There will be games, candy and prizes. Also, the Palmyra Fireflies, which is the ladies auxiliary for the fire department, will sell donuts, coffee and hot chocolate.


The Palmyra Historical Society will host a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at the fire department at 3956 state Rte. 225. The historical society is working with the Red Cross on this.

Paris

The annual Paris Fire Department Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, March 16 at the Shearer Community Center at 9355 Newton Falls Rd. in Ravenna. Breakfast will be from 8 to 11 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and sausage. The Easter Egg Hunt will take place after breakfast.

Edinburg

The Edinburg Fire Department applied for a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to pay for brush firefighting equipment but was rejected. The department has also applied for grants for a heart monitor for its ambulance as well as a mechanism that connects to the gurney and automatically slides it into the ambulance so that workers will not have to lift the gurney into the vehicle.

Rootstown

Rootstown Township accepted a road bid from Perrin Asphalt to pave the driveway from Case Avenue to Cook Road in Rootstown Community Park.


The township is going to utilize the Portage County Land Bank to take down three dilapidated houses on Tallmadge Road, Cook Road and Hattrick Road. The homeowners will keep the properties.


Linda Hankins was hired as Rootstown’s new fiscal officer. JoAnn Townend stepped down after almost 20 years on the job.


The Rootstown Sports Boosters will host a reverse raffle and dinner Saturday, April 6 at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall at 251 W. Spruce Ave. in Ravenna. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $70.
