Warmer weather is finally in the air and here are some exciting events and important information coming up in our little town.
- Roger Gordon. Garrettsville Village Council President Tom Hardesty and Council Member John Brachna recently presented the opportunity to form a Joint Economic Development District between Garrettsville and Nelson Township.
- Nicole Sweet. Join Windham Village and Township for a joint community clean-up weekend from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. Clear your clutter and put it in the dumpsters at the wastewater plant at 9958 E. Center St. (next to the American Legion).
- Roger Gordon. The Village of Hiram’s Downtown Revitalization Spring Fest will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26 on Hayden Street. Approximately 25 vendors, five of which are food trucks, will be selling a variety of goodies.
- Nicole Sweet. The New Hope Baptist Church will be providing free hot lunches for Windham students during spring break. Kids and teens 18 and under are invited to stop in and have lunch.
- Roger Gordon. Brad Ehrhart, president of the Portage Development Board, spoke recently to Garrettsville Village Council about the village’s interest in perhaps at some point becoming part of a Joint Economic Development District (JEDD) with other communities.
- Wendy DiAlesandro. Bigfoot sightings in Portage County? The Bigfoot Society (yes, there is one) claims it’s true, and points to multiple recent sightings in Garrettsville, Windham, Mantua, Mantua Center and Streetsboro.
- Nicole Sweet. The Village of Windham is looking for vendors for the farmers' market at the Windham Community Building, from 5 to 7 p.m. every third Thursday, February through April. Local food and craft vendors wanted. Call 330-646-9361 for more information.
- Roger Gordon. As part of a Village of Hiram Downtown Revitalization project, Hiram College students are leading a poster contest within the Crestwood and Garfield school districts.
- Roger Gordon. The Windham Township Trustees held a special meeting recently regarding the amendment that the people brought about having a second dwelling on one parcel. The trustees voted to accept the zoning commission’s recommendation to deny that activity.
- Nicole Sweet. Terrie Altiere was formally sworn in as mayor by village Solicitor Charles Gasior on Dec. 16. Mayor Altiere was appointed to fill the vacant mayoral seat and will serve in this capacity through Dec. 31, 2027.
- Nicole Sweet. From the Windham Police Department: Until Dec. 25, Windham PD officers will be providing individuals who are pulled over for minor traffic infractions a “Warning for Christmas Morning” voucher instead of a traffic citation.
- Roger Gordon. Village council has authorized Mayor Anne Haynam to offer a management contract to the Village of Mantua that would allow the Hiram Police Department to manage the Mantua Village Police Department on a temporary basis.

Hello Windham Family! November is National Gratitude Month. Gratitude is an active process of acknowledging goodness and recognizing its source. There is so much to be grateful for in Windham.

House fires are always awful, but the timing couldn’t have been worse for the searing blaze Nov. 11 that burned Hiram Village Fire Department Assistant Chief Jason Groselle and his family’s historic home on Ryder Road to the ground. Fortunately, nobody was home when the fire happened.
