Around Windham: Spring fundraisers are kicking off and Bombers excell

- Nicole Sweet

Hello Windham Family!

April showers bring May flowers in Bomber Country! Thankfully for us, this has been a warmer-than-usual start to April. Looking forward to continued warmer days ahead. Spring is finally in the air, and here are some exciting events and important information coming up in our little town:

Community clean-up days

Join Windham Village and Township for a joint community clean-up weekend from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. Clear your clutter and put it in the dumpsters at the wastewater plant at 9958 E. Center St. (next to the American Legion).

The clean-up will end when all the dumpsters are full. Flammable items, paint and construction materials will not be accepted, and only four tires per household will be allowed. Proof of residency required.

KT Kindergarten and Preschool registration now open

Registration for the 2026-27 school year for kindergarten and preschool is now open. Students must turn 3 or 4 prior to Aug. 31, 2026 to be eligible to attend preschool, and kindergarten students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2026. Preschool registration is open through May 9. Call Katherine Thomas Elementary for more information at 330-326-9800.

Lions Club Sausage and Steak dates 2026

Save the dates for the upcoming Lions Club Sausage and Steak Booth weekends: May 1 and 2, June 5 and 6, July 10 and 11, Aug. 7 and 8, Sept. 11 and 12, and Oct. 2 and 3. The cost of $6 will buy you the best sausage or steak sandwich in Portage County. The trailer will be located on state Route 303 in the parking lot next to Circle K; it will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The Windham Lions Club has been serving the Windham community since 1955.

Chipotle fundraiser for Windham Bombers PTO

The Windham Bombers PTO has a fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at the Ravenna Chipotle. Supporters can show the flyer or mention the fundraiser in person, or order online using our code (delivery orders are not permitted for the fundraiser). Enjoy your burritos and support our students.

Congratulations KT Elementary School

The Ohio Department of Education recognized Katherine Thomas Elementary School for earning the Momentum Award. This award is very difficult for any school to achieve, and Katherine Thomas has earned it two straight school years. Congrats to everyone involved and Go Bombers!

Congratulations to Bombers

Congratulations to Anayah Davis and Kyle Crisman, who were recognized at Hiram College. Both students shared excerpts from their original pieces, which recently earned recognition in one of Hiram’s writing contests. Great job, Anayah and Kyle.

Congratulations to sixth grade Destination Imagination winners

Congratulations to our sixth-grade Destination Imagination team for finishing fourth in the state at its competition. These students faced teams from much larger school districts while moving up to the middle school bracket this year, forcing them to be the youngest team in the tournament. They worked hard all year and represented Windham well.

Windham Village Fun In The Sun

Mark your calendars for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 for the annual Fun in the Sun event. We’re looking for vendors and live entertainment to be part of this fun community event as we say goodbye to summer and welcome the fall vibes. If you’re interested in participating, contact us at windhamvillageohvents@gmail.com or dmiller@windhamvillageoh.gov. Let’s make this a great day for the community with shopping, music, food and fun for everyone.

I look forward to keeping the Windham community up to date with all the information I receive. Please contact me with anything you may like featured. The Around Windham column runs the third week of each month, and I will need all the information the week prior. You may contact me via text/call at 330-283-2711 or via email at nks1024@icloud.com.

Thank you, Nicole Sweet.
