Around Windham: Help Windham PTO fulfill every school supply list for the new school year

- Nicole Sweet

Hello Windham Family!

August is such a special time in Bomber Country. Fall sports are gearing up, the excitement of back-to-school is in the air, and hints of autumn are beginning to show. More than just a change in the calendar, back-to-school season carries a feeling of anticipation, renewal, and possibility. As students head back to class after a long summer break, we welcome a new school year filled with opportunities, growth, and fresh beginnings. Many exciting things are happening in Windham; I look forward to keeping the community up to date with all the information I receive every month.

Windham Bombers PTO Back 2 School Bash

Windham’s PTO will be hosting a Back 2 School Bash for all Windham students on Thursday, Aug. 27 during Meet the Teacher Night. We are still seeking donations, however, due to the incredible generosity of our community and beyond, we will be covering ALL school supply lists for this school year for Windham Exempted Village Schools besides backpacks, lunchboxes and water bottles (we would recommend that families still get those).

Any extra school supplies that are donated will be used to help teachers get through the school year when they run out. You can also check out our Amazon Wishlist here on items we still need and they will ship directly to us: https://amzlink.to/az0YQHqoO35di. Thank you for your generosity.

Windham T-Mobile Million Dollar Grant Progress

We are incredibly honored to share that Windham Exempted Village Schools is one of 1,175 schools (almost 1,000 less than last year) nationwide to apply for the T-Mobile $1 Million Friday Night 5G Lights Grant to put a track on our football field. This isn’t a random drawing. Schools are chosen based on the strength of their story, the impact on their community, and the support shown by the people who believe in them. Now it’s our turn to show what makes Windham special.

This weekend, we’re looking for students, parents, alumni, coaches, teachers, local businesses, and community members who would be willing to be part of short videos sharing: 1) What you love about Windham 2) Why our students deserve a new track and field 3) How improved facilities would benefit not only our athletes, but our entire community for years to come.

Whether you’ve cheered from the stands, walked on our track, coached a team, or simply love this town, your voice matters.

If you’re interested in being part of this project, send Elena Sweet a message. Together, let’s show the judges what makes Windham more than just a school, it’s a family.

We are only two weeks into this competition, and Windham has already been named a weekly winner of $5,000. That means we are doing something right — and we have a real chance to take this even further. Watching our football coaches surprise the players and seeing them scream, jump and celebrate says it all. Then, our marching band got the news on the bus ride home and celebrated right along with them. This is what Bomber pride looks like!

But we cannot slow down now. This is only the beginning! We need to keep building our following on Instagram and X and continue showing T-Mobile just how badly Windham
wants — and needs — this win.

Follow Windham Athletic Boosters, share our posts, keep making your own posts, tag @TMobile, always include #entry and #FN5GL.

We have already made it this far — and we are just getting started. Let’s keep the energy high, keep Windham’s name everywhere and show everyone what this small but
mighty community can do. Let’s go Windham, keep posting, keep sharing, keep believing. T-Mobile #entry #FN5GL.

1974 Football Team HOF Induction

The WHS Hall of Fame needs community help. On Sept. 18 at the football game that night, the 1974 Windham Bombers team of Coach Stan Parrish that reached the semi-finals of the state playoffs will be inducted as a team into the Hall of Fame. The HOF is reaching out to the community to let as many players know about this honor, and who they can contact to be present that evening for the ceremony. If you were on that team, or have contact with anyone who was, would you please pass along word to contact Athletic Director Dougle Hankins at dhankins@windham-schools.org, or Principal Zack Burns at dburns@windham-schools.org.
And congratulations to that legendary team.
