- pauline1557808. The Suffield Lions Club will hold its Annual Mother’s Day Rose Sale on Saturday, May 9. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until sold out. The Lions will be outside at the Suffield Town Hall located at the corner of St. Rt. 43 and Route 224. This will make it an easy drive-by pick up.
- Roger Gordon. Members of the Atwater High School Class of 1963 Jim Manion, Jerry Michael, Chuck Brockett and Steve Crites attended a recent board of trustees meeting to talk about a request they have made to the Portage County Engineer’s Office.

- Roger Gordon. Mogadore Village Council, partnering with Summit County and the City of Akron, passed legislation to authorize the village engineer to prepare and submit an application for grants from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
- Roger Gordon. Seth Dowler was promoted to fire chief of the Village of Mogadore after three years as assistant fire chief. His first day in his new capacity will be Dec. 27. Dowler is replacing John Cain, who is retiring after 12 years as fire chief and an astounding 44 years as a fireman in the department.
Trustee Jeff Eldreth explained that the Mogadore Reservoir water level has been intentionally lowered so that damage from a beaver can be repaired.

Atwater The Atwater Fire Department was an integral part of the “active shooter drill” that took place Oct. 31 at Waterloo Local Schools. Various departments and agencies were involved with this training/learning exercise. Meanwhile, Jacob Shaffer was recently hired by the fire department. New “Welcome to Atwater” signs were constructed and installed on state Route 183 in the township by Eagle Scout candidate Jacob Simonetti. Boxed and Branded, owned by Joseph Simonetti, Jacob’s brother, donated landscape timbers used for the project.

The 167th Portage County Randolph Fair will be all day from Tuesday, Aug. 19 through Sunday, Aug. 24 at 4215 Fairground Rd. As usual, there will be animal shows, animal contests, animal auctions, a demolition derby, live bands, karaoke, scavenger hunts, workshops, truck and tractor pulls, and a wide variety of food concessions. Atwater Fire Department Chief Jason Brock presented information on the increasing call volume the department is facing (there were 51 incidents in May). Data showed the need for the station to be staffed from 4 to 10 p.m. as this is the second-busiest call time after the 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. time slot.
Mogadore will have its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, May 26. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on James Street by the Mogadore Branch Library and conclude at Greenwood Cemetery at 3809 Mogadore Rd., where the ceremony will be held.

The Atwater Township Clean-Up Days will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 2 and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3 in the Town Hall parking lot at 1219 State Route 183.
The Suffield League recently enjoyed another “Laugh at the Lake” evening, with the sold-out crowd entertained by comedians Jeff Blanchard, Tim Folger, Michael Gershe and magician Eric Thompson. This year’s event was co-sponsored by the Harry Miller Construction Company.
