Atwater
Members of the Atwater High School Class of 1963 Jim Manion, Jerry Michael, Chuck Brockett and Steve Crites attended a recent board of trustees meeting to talk about a request they have made to the Portage County Engineer’s Office.
The request is to dedicate a portion of Waterloo Road in memory of classmate Lt. Dale Loudin, who was killed in November 1967 while leading his platoon in Vietnam. The board expressed its support of this program, offering any assistance that might be needed, and thanked the alums for coming to the meeting.
Entries for the Memorial Day Parade on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 that wish to be judged in the various categories, with a chance to win trophies, need to register before that day by contacting Peggy at 330-603-5227. Line-up for the parade begins after 11 a.m. by entering Bank Street from state Route 224. The parade begins at noon, travels to Atwater Cemetery for a ceremony and concludes with the awarding of the winners in the various parade categories.
The board of trustees passed a resolution to put a six-month moratorium on data centers in the township. The trustees would like to assess the impact of the health, safety, utilities and infrastructure on the community, along with allowing time to consider dedicating a section on data centers to the Atwater Township zoning code.
The Atwater Fire Department has welcomed Shawney Hamilton and Bailey Fumic as full-time members of the department.

Suffield
The Suffield League’s annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Line-up is at 9 a.m., and the parade steps off at 10 a.m. The parade route goes from Catherine Lane to Suffield Elementary School.
The annual Suffield Township Car Cruise-In will be Sunday, June 7 in the center of town (rain date is June 14). No trophies or awards will be given, so guests can come and go as they please.
The Dumas Ranch Burger Dispatch food truck will be on site, and 1950s and ’60s music will be played over two loudspeakers. There will also be bounce houses for kids.
A farmers market will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9 at Suffield Town Hall at 1256 Waterloo Rd.
The Suffield Trustees have put a six-month moratorium on data centers in the township.
“We want to research them more,” township Vice Chair Jeff Eldreth said.
Randolph
The Randolph Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Memorial Day pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. The breakfast will feature pancakes, sausage, eggs, toast, coffee and juice. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
Afterward, the Randolph Lions Club’s annual Memorial Day Parade will take place. Line-up begins at 9 a.m. at Moyer Fields at 3636 Waterloo Rd. No check-in required, just show up and line up. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Township Road Department, head east into the center of town and then travel north, ending at Old School Park on state Route 44. A ceremony will then be held in front of Town Hall, where a speech will be given by a Waterloo High School student. The Randolph Sewing Club will present hand-sewn quilted blankets to veterans.
The Randolph Trustees have put a moratorium on data centers in the township for the time being.
Brimfield
Building construction for Brimfield Crossings Plaza is complete, and work is being done on landscaping and preparing for paving.
The Portage Development Board’s Locate, Stay & Grow event will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.
7 Brew will construct a new building in Brimfield Commons across from Aldi. Brimfield Economic Development Director and Zoning Inspector Mike Hlad is working on reviewing its plans and lot split.
“The Nova,” a mixed-use residential/celebration center proposal on Tallmadge Road, is preparing plans in order to submit its zoning applications.
The zoning department is working with Campbell & Associates for the replat of McGuire Park.
Regional Planning voted to place Hlad on its executive committee.
The Pavlick & Reppas Oral Surgery Center on state Route 43 was approved by the board of zoning appeals and is awaiting building permits from Portage County.
A new hotel is being proposed in the Highway Commercial District behind McDonald’s. The board of zoning appeals approved its conditional use permit.
Work is being done on the framing, the drywall and the alarm system for the proposed Fairfield Inn.
New occupants in Brimfield Plaza include Wing Warehouse, All Pro Sports & Creations and Portage County Republican Headquarters.
Digital Bloom, located at 3982 State Route 43, had a ribbon cutting April 24.
The Villas at Wyles Farm apartment homes on Town Square Drive continue site work and constructing apartments. The Portage County Engineer has approved the public roadway improvements from tax increment financing. This roadway work will be starting soon.
Ryan Homes continues to construct townhomes/condos in the Woodland Reserve condominium development at 5036 State Route 43. Many condos have been sold this spring and permits have been issued. Work is being done on tax increment financing to run water down state Route 43. Replats for this project continue.
Pleasant Lakes of Ohio has been granted approval to continue with condominium development off Sanctuary Drive. The roadway is now in, and several condos are under construction. The developer will also begin building behind the Holiday Inn and Los Girasoles.
The Hill Church continues to work on its new addition.
The former Rico’s Bar is being transformed into a restaurant/bar owned by KWT Commercial Real Estate LLC. Construction is nearing completion.
The Schaffer Woods Subdivision off state Route 18 has been approved by the board of zoning appeals and Regional Planning. This new subdivision will have 128 new homes and connect into Chapman Farms.
The Village of Saint Edward assisted living facility is now siding the building and continuing site work.
Menards is installing electric vehicle charging stations in the front portion of its lot, and construction is nearing completion.
Plato’s Closet is moving into 3975 Cascades Blvd., Units 8 and 10.
Buffalo Wild Wings Go has requested occupancy in the former GameStop location near Chipotle.
A mixed-use development is being proposed south of Dunkin’ Donuts on state Route 18.
Ten Brimfield Township zoning violation cases are in court with the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office.
Fifteen new homes have been permitted this year.
Permit fees as of April 30 for the zoning department total $18,648.25.

Mogadore
Mogadore’s annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will step off at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. The parade starts on James Street, heads north on South Cleveland Avenue, travels west on Mogadore Road and concludes at Greenwood Cemetery, where a ceremony will be held. School board member and veteran C.C. Penrod will give a speech at the cemetery.
