Over three years after the death of local newspaper editor Roger Di Paolo, the prolific Kent chronicler now has a headstone. But leave it to Di Paolo to shake things up — the headstone is at his feet.
Atwater Township is chip-and-sealing German Church Road and Bank Street and is fog sealing Laubert Road. Fog sealing helps to seal small cracks in pavement and prevents water from penetrating the surface, which can cause damage over time. Also, township road workers have begun underdrain work in the Hillcrest Allotment to correct water drainage issues.

Hello Windham Family! August is one of my favorite times of year in Bomber Country. Fall sports are kicking off, back to school is on its way and signs of autumn are on the horizon.
A “little” rain doesn’t faze Charlestown. It rained on and off all morning and early afternoon Saturday, Aug. 3, as set up for the 21st Annual Charlestown Summer Festival and Cruise In was completed. Then, right on cue the rain stopped, the sun came out at 3 p.m. and the festival commenced as planned.

The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled against Kent City Schools in its bid to justify its termination of a former Kent teacher.
The Sip n Shop was a huge success. Co-organizer Sherri Collins and I are already planning next year’s Sip n Shop on Main.
For children in foster care, their fate may be decided by a room full of adults they barely know. The required court hearing takes less than an hour. They’re not present, and their name is not even mentioned.

The King Kennedy Community Center in Ravenna built a new gymnasium in 2022 with financial support from the county, Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Portage County, Neighborhood Development Services and the First Congregational Church of Ravenna.
A nonprofit mobile food pantry announced July 30 that its operations will be put on hold “due to health issues and financial support shortcomings.”
Streetsboro City Park will host the city’s Brew & BBQ Bash from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 17.
In 2004 I retired after serving more than 30 years in the classroom. I have closely watched the events surrounding the State Teachers Retirement System unfold and I understand the frustration that retirees have expressed over the last couple of years as inflation jumped to 8% in 2022. It currently stands at 3.3%.
