Ohio property values have increased dramatically over the past several years. For Portage County, we are seeing an increase on average of about 33%. What does this mean? Well, you may have been surprised when you opened the letter from my office recently that showed a before value assessed in 2021 and then an after value from this year.

A number of years ago, I found myself sitting in a huge, old ship captain’s house, built in 1876, along Lake Erie. I settled myself in the parlor, a square, high-ceilinged room. Rocking gently in a big white rocking chair, facing a large, lovely watercolor of rowboats lined up at a dock, I blissfully sipped my coffee.
Every Portage County voter will have a chance Nov. 5 to say “yes” or “no” to state Issue 1, the proposed constitutional amendment to end gerrymandering. If nothing else, Issue 1 reveals how breathtakingly shameless Republicans have become. In their effort to hold onto power, they’ll say anything.

Portage County 4-H Life Skills Committee held the county 4-H sewing judging and fashion revue on July 18th. 4-H members from 8 to 18 years old and ranging in skills from beginner level sewers to advanced levels competed. First place winners in each category went on to the Ohio State Fair sewing judging and style revue.

Earlier this year, Mantua Village Council realized that it had a fairly sizable bank account and thought it would be good to do a better job investing that money so it could at least be earning ample interest instead of just sitting in the bank with a very low interest rate.
