The Portage County Recorder’s website provides a free link to notify property owners when mortgage or deed activity affecting their property has taken place. Though such notifications may alert them to fraudulent activity, Portage County Recorder Lori Calcei said few people have taken advantage of it.
It’s property tax season in Portage County. The first-half property tax deadline of Feb. 28 looms in less than a week, and our office is seeing a big uptick in residents showing up to pay their bills in-person. This is not unusual in and of itself.
Aurora City Council on Feb. 24 eyed replacing one of the city’s two salt domes, at a cost of $85,220. The one targeted for replacement dates back to 2000 and is in bad shape, Director of Public Services Harry Stark told city council members at the Monday meeting.

When the Nov. 4 general election votes are counted, the city of Kent will welcome a new mayor-elect and a host of new council members. All three of Kent’s at-large council seats are open as the incumbents say they’ve accomplished what they set out to do and that it’s time for new people to bring fresh ideas to the table.

Our son recently showed me a picture of a nice looking loveseat. It would match our living room perfectly and had an automatic recliner on both sides that lays totally flat, with a console in the middle. Wow. That’s nice. He asked me if we wanted it.
