Socially Responsible Sweatshop prepares quilt for annual raffle

- Staff Report

The Socially Responsible Sweatshop of Kent will raffle off a purple butterfly quilt in this year’s raffle, which helps the nonprofit cover its annual insurance costs.

This year’s quilt was created and donated by Barb Carlo of Grafton Township and was finished by Debbie Wilcox of Ravenna. Tickets for the raffle are $2 each or three tickets for $5. They can be purchased at the nonprofit’s booth at the Haymaker Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings until July 26.

Sales from SRS’ shop benefit local organizations helping individuals and families around Portage County. The group has donated more than $10,000 to help fight hunger in Portage County since 2020, and donated $50,000 just last year. SRS hopes to reach its goal of $60,000 this year to benefit organizations like Kent Social Services, Center of Hope, Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority, Women, Infant & Children and more.
