Robert E. Tompkins Jr. Foundation Scholarship winners announced

A memorial scholarship fund in the name of the late Robert Tompkins Jr., a lifelong supporter of Mogadore sports, music and community provides scholarships to graduating seniors who excel in athletics and/or music.

Tompkins participated in football, wrestling, basketball and track during his years at Mogadore High School. He was All-State football and state runner up in wrestling. Later, he coached football at Field and Mogadore.

The inaugural winners are Mackenzie Boley, graduate of Field High School, and Julie Tompkins and Ari Tompkins, graduates of Mogadore High School.

Mackenzie Boley will be attending Grove City College and will major in design and innovation with a minor in studio art. She will also play on the school’s golf team.

Julie Tompkins will pursue a major in allied health from Cedarville University, and is committed to the track and field team at the school.

Ari Tompkins also plans to attend Cedarville University for a major in business and ministry, and is also committed to the track and field team. She hopes to become a full-time firefighter/EMT.

Atwater The Atwater Fire Department was an integral part of the “active shooter drill” that took place Oct. 31 at Waterloo Local Schools. Various departments and agencies were involved with this training/learning exercise. Meanwhile, Jacob Shaffer was recently hired by the fire department.
