County roundup: Rootstown businesses on display next week, plus news from Palmyra, Paris and Edinburg

The Rootstown Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at NEOMED at 4209 state Route 44. There will be some 40 vendors showcasing their businesses and passing out candy. There will also be a Trunk-or-Treat and a Touch-a-Truck with the fire department, service department and sheriff’s office.

As I write this column, dusk is rapidly giving way to darkness on a crisp, overcast mid-October night. When the weather is nice, I can glance up from my laptop and see a parade of people walking their dogs past our house; today, however, the chilly air and descending darkness has most in our neighborhood hunkered down in their homes.

Letter: Portage Parks is a small investment with a big return

As volunteers for the Citizens for Portage Parks Campaign Committee, we strongly believe in the quality of life that our Portage Parks bring to our county. Having passed the first levy in 2014, we have seen what the levy dollars can do to enhance our county. During the last 10 years, we’ve seen four new parks open, improved parks and trails, and hundreds of free programs offered for all ages and abilities.
