Raw sewage in yards, culverts and open ditches. Nonexistent and failed septic systems. That’s been life in Ravenna Township’s Chinn Allotment, but the state EPA says those days are soon over: It’s time for a sanitary sewer system.

A meeting was held April 30 in the Ravenna High School auditorium regarding the upcoming building of a sewer system in the Chinn Allotment. A representative from Portage County Water Resources explained to the Chinn Allotment residents how the project is going to unfold and the associated costs with it, much of which will come from the residents’ pockets.

Southeast Music Boosters will be hosting a car show from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 25 in the high school parking lot. There will be a DJ, food, live performances from the jazz band and swing choir, vendors and trophies. All proceeds benefit all of the music students, kindergarten through 12th grade.
Kent Community TimeBank is offering a series of Repair Cafes, each one dedicated to providing on-site repairs or teaching people how to repair certain items themselves.

Two residents of a Kent independent senior living complex allege the building manager and owner are discriminating and retaliating against them on the basis of their disabilities.

A developer wants to build an assisted living facility and senior independent living community on South Water Street in Kent, but surrounding property owners are concerned about the loss of open space, the scope of the project, the potential impact on Kent’s first responders, stormwater runoff and what the company may do in the future.

A small group of demonstrators have gathered weekly at 5 p.m. on Fridays in solidarity with Gazans under bombardment since October, resulting in over 30,000 civilian deaths, mostly women and children.
The Paris Township Trustees voted to purchase a monitor pager for the township’s tornado warning siren at a cost of $600. The siren does not work without it.

Portage County Land Reutilization Corporation, known as the Land Bank, returned 52 properties to the tax rolls in 2023 and demolished 230 vacant and blighted properties, according to the quasi-governmental organization’s latest annual report.
