So many deer are roaming around Portage County, it almost seems as though they are becoming pets, with residents voicing concern that the population must be ballooning. But according to officials, that’s not the case.

The Hiram High School alumni held their 29th reunion July 17 at the Troy Community Center in Welshfield after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. Fifty classmates attended the potluck event that represented the graduating classes of 1946 to 1964, the last year the school was in service. The event was organized by Maryan Jenkins, Barbara Biltz, and Gary and Carol Bott.
The old Flamingo Motel is gone, but the wreckage could cost Atwater Township almost $100,000 after officials authorized the demolition without following environmental rules.

Love it or loathe it, the corner of Franklin Avenue and Erie Street in Kent is not what it once was. But lately there’s been new progress on the development of two parcels there.

Organizers of the Thomas-Anderson Memorial Garden in Kent celebrated the dedication of a new “Grove of Elders” on Saturday, joining with family members of people honored as pillars of the South End neighborhood.
We applaud the Kent City Council for this effort and believe that a tobacco retail license is among the most effective tools to prevent and reduce tobacco use among both youth and adults.

Supervisor Matota has had “no luck” finding a part-time employee to join his department. He also said that the county has two open positions for drivers and has received no applicants as well.
The City of Kent will begin requiring all retailers of tobacco products to apply for a license with the city in an effort to curb the sale of vape products to underage people.
Kent City Council voted 6-3 to pass a resolution condemning the Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade and the Ohio House Bill 69, or the “Heartbeat Bill,” which went into effect in its wake.

After pedaling more than 2,500 miles, cyclists participating in the Fuller Center Bike Adventure’s Seaside to Sebago tour pedaled into Aurora on July 8 to help low-income Portage County residents with home-repair projects.
