October is almost over; can you believe it? Lately, I have been feeling a sense of restlessness. Perhaps you feel autumn-restlessness, too? It's like we're collectively waiting to exhale.
I have been asked to resume writing my “Around Windham” column for The Portager. I am a big fan of the Windham area and have lived here for 56 years.

A fundraising event for Elliot Thompson and his family, put on by the Windham softball community was held June 22 and 23. Elliot is coach for the 14U team in Windham and has been very active in our local softball program. Elliot had a massive stroke recently. He is in the Cleveland Clinic at the time I wrote this.
Hello Windham family! Post-Labor Day in Bomber Country always seems to be a turning point or symbolic start of a new year. Some of us feel a bit restless – anticipating the change of season, but not really feeling it yet (because the weather has still been hot), and many of us feel energized – ready to embrace the coming autumn and feeling a sense of renewal.

The third annual Windham/James A. Garfield Marathon Veterans Day half marathon was held on Nov. 12. The races started and ended at the Windham High School, which is next to Camp James A. Garfield (formerly Ravenna Arsenal).
Windham Schools were selected as a 2023 “Fields of Excellence” Award winner by Pioneer Athletics. More than 9,000 places applied and Windham was one of six selected from Ohio, including three schools, two minor league teams and one university.
Happy March, Bomber Country! The time has changed, and longer days are on the horizon. Seeing the sun up past 7 p.m. has done wonders for my soul. I love driving through town and seeing people walking their dogs and kids riding their bikes. Spring is finally in the air and here are some exciting events coming up in our little town:
