Around Windham: Fall events are in full swing in Windham

- Nicole Sweet

Hello Windham Family! October is halfway over already. Outside, our beautiful Windham rural landscape is changing, air is getting colder, nights are getting longer, and the leaves are all changing colors. Embrace the changing beauty of our little Bomber community; there are many things to look forward to, as you’ll read below.

2025 Windham Bomber Homecoming Festivities

The 2025 Windham Bombers won their Homecoming game 42-6 vs Cardinal High School. Congratulations to Windham Bombers Ethan Thornton and Brielle Jones on being named 2025 Homecoming King and Queen.

PTO Pie Fundraiser

The Windham Bombers PTO will be hosting a Fall Pie Fundraiser. Order forms are available through any PTO member or at the school. All profits from the fundraiser will go toward Windham PTO giving back to our school district. All pies will be $13.

The Gardner Pie Company, located in Akron, has been family owned and operated since 1945. The pies follow time-honored, family recipes and use only the freshest, all-natural ingredients. These high quality gourmet pies are free of trans fats and preservatives and come in in the following flavors: pumpkin, cherry, apple, very berry, apple walnut caramel, peach and pecan.

Orders need to be in by Nov. 3 and pie pickup day will be Friday, Nov. 21, just in time for Thanksgiving. All pies are 10-inch and serve six to eight people. Baking, serving and storage instructions are included in each order. PTO accepts cash, checks payable to Windham Bombers PTO, Venmo @WindhamPTO or PayPal: windhambomberspto@gmail.com.

PTO and WTA Trunk or Treat

The Windham Bombers PTO and the Windham Teacher’s Association will be hosting a Trunk or Treat from 5 to 7 p .m. Monday, Oct. 27 in the student parking lot across from the Windham High School/Jr. High School on the corner of School Street and Marty Hill/Bauer Ave. We welcome all local businesses, or if you live out in the township without trick or treaters, to decorate your car and attend. You must bring your own candy to hand out. We are looking forward to the big night.

Senior Photos Opportunity

Windham class of 2025-26 Seniors: Photographer Elena Sweet from Ever Sweet Photography is offering Pay-What-You-Can Senior Photo Sessions again this year (true pay what you can with no minimum) just for Windham seniors. “This is YOUR year, and I want every single one of you to have photos to celebrate it regardless of financial circumstances. I have done these for the past three years and am going to offer them again this year! This isn’t about money, it’s about making sure you feel seen, celebrated, and proud of how far you’ve come. Whether you can give a little, a lot, or nothing at all, you’ll still get a session that’s all about YOU,” said Elena. Contact her directly at 330-206-8829.

Graduation is such a special moment— you deserve to have it remembered.

Elena does senior sessions in other districts as well but charges $80 to $100 (dependent on location) for senior sessions. This specific deal she does just for her hometown kids.

A Note from the Lions Club

Our food trailer is our biggest and best-tasting fundraiser of the year! This year, we rocked it, and it’s all thanks to you, our patrons. None of our success would be possible without you and we do so appreciate you coming back month after month, year after year. We are putting together our 2025 Brag Board so you can see just what your $6 sandwich does … you will be surprised. Remember, every penny raised from the food trailer, pancake breakfasts, raffles, it is all spent on service, locally and globally. So again, thank you.

Windham Village Playground Closure

Community Alert: Playground Closure. The Village of Windham Park Playground is closed until Spring 2026 (or until further notice) due to safety concerns. The safety of our children and families is our top priority. We understand how disappointing this news is, but necessary updates and repairs must be completed before we can safely reopen this area to the public. Please note: This closure only applies to the playground. The ball fields remain open.

We are truly saddened to share this and apologize for the inconvenience, but we know this is the best decision for our community at this time. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Stay safe, Windham — and as always, Go Bombers!

Village of Windham Updates:

Trick or Treat: Windham Village Trick or Treat will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

Around Windham: Fall is the new New Year

- by Nicole Sweet .

Hello Windham Family! Post-Labor Day in Bomber Country always seems to be a turning point or symbolic start of a new year. September has a back-to-school/new year vibe that is hard for me to ignore. Author Gretchen Rubin first remarked that “September is the other January” in her book “Happier at Home.” Gretchen noted that “Each year, Labor Day was a milestone that provoked self-evaluation and reflection.”
