“The present fire station is super old. Some of it dates back into the 1920s,” township Trustee Chris Diehl said. “The building is just getting dilapidated. Times are changing, and we need to have better living quarters for full-time firemen with separate bathrooms, showers and all of that stuff.”

The Southeast Board of Education on Monday accepted the retirement of intermediate school teacher Valerie Kotlar, effective Sept. 1. Kotlar has been with the district for 16 years. The board also noted the retirement of band director Joni Stoll, who has served the district for 20 years. Stoll's retirement is effective June 1.

Assistant Chief Don Hanna was recently honored at a ceremony held at the Charlestown Volunteer Fire Department. The ceremony marked his retirement after 45 years of service to the fire department. Approximately 40 people were in attendance to thank Hanna for his dedication to protecting the residents of Charlestown.
