Around Charlestown: Fall activities, park improvements and Christmas around the corner

Fall is in the air, so that means it’s time to talk about Halloween! Trunk or Treat will be Sunday, Oct. 30, from 2-4 p.m. at the township park. Those passing out candy are asked to arrive between 1:30 -1:45 p.m. to be set up by 2 p.m.

Please take part if you are able. It’s fun to see how excited the children are. Decorated trunks are encouraged but not required. However, there will be a prize for the best decorated trunk.

In addition to going trunk to trunk, the ghouls and goblins can take a hike through the woods on the Boo! Walk where they will be greeted by friendly characters with treats. Face Painting by Corri will be there to work her magic for free. Then everyone is invited to enjoy a hot dog, chips and beverage compliments of the Charlestown Activity Committee. Come join in the fun!

I was talking to Trustee Bruce Lange recently, and he filled me in on all the improvements that have been made at the township park this year. There are a lot, beginning with a new split rail fence and upgrading the walking path, to and through the woods, with a limestone base. The pavilion was outfitted with windbreak roll downs on the whole west side and all new picnic tables, some handicap accessible.

Cement pads were poured for the bleachers and team benches on the ball field and for the portable toilet and the benches by the playground. Finally, they will soon be installing new basketball backboards. A big thanks to the trustees for making our park look good and function better.

Just a heads up for all our creative Christmas decorators. There will be a Christmas Lighting Contest again this year. So start checking all those strings of lights and the details will be in this column next month.
