Welcome to the second installment of Inventors of Portage County. This edition will focus on men who made their mark on travel: air, land and water. Without them, we’d not have the reverse gear on our outboard motors, and planes would be grounded the minute temperatures fall.
The St. Ambrose St. Patrick’s Day Reverse Raffle Dinner is back to being held at Sugar Bush. The event on March 16 includes dinner, coffee, iced tea, cash bar, DJ, reverse raffle, 50/50, and a Chinese auction. Tickets are $100 for two meals and one number, grand prize is $1,000.

Portage County’s representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives joined the majority Jan. 31 in passing a bipartisan tax package that would include a child tax credit expansion.

Since 2020, the Portage County sheriff’s annual budget has increased by $8 million, and Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski is asking for an additional $4 million increase this year.

Students in Aurora noticed something that didn’t sit well with them: Their fellow students in wheelchairs were not able to access the current playground at Leighton Elementary School due to a lack of equipment and environmental obstacles.

The cities of Kent, Ravenna and Streetsboro have sued the county and the sheriff, alleging that Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski is wrongfully keeping money he should have distributed when the Portage County Drug Task Force disbanded in 2021.
