Portage County commissioners agreed last week with county Emergency Management Director Ryan Shackelford’s plan to hand ownership of three proposed MARCS towers to the state once they are built.
Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci told The Portager on Thursday that guns are simply not permitted in publicly owned buildings so long as those buildings are not used primarily for shelter, restrooms or parking vehicles.

The Randolph Suffield Atwater Food Shelf has served residents of Atwater, Randolph and Suffield townships since the mid-1970s, but never more efficiently than since opening its new location earlier this year at 2697 Waterloo Road in Atwater.
Twenty years after they lost their 16-month-old daughter, and 12 years after they first opened in Kent, Cathy and Bob Reeves have moved their grief counseling center and foundation into a permanent home.

Legal haggling over gerrymandered legislative district maps had not been resolved in time for the May 3 primary, leaving state representative candidates unsure as to where they should be campaigning.

There is a family claiming a loved one of theirs was laid to rest in the mausoleum at Grandview Cemetery in 2015 and wants to know the location of the loved one’s remains. Superintendent Ray Taylor has been unsuccessful in locating any records of the deceased but is working to get the family answers. Taylor indicated he has been working on locating the individual for years.
Portage County commissioners last week approved a $411,886 contract to purchase 124 body cams and 30 in-car camera systems for the sheriff’s office.
