At least three more students at Streetsboro have been targeted with sextortion in recent months, following the harassment and subsequent Nov. 19 death by suicide of 17-year-old James Woods, city and school officials said last week.

Aurora authorized the purchase of a new 2023 ambulance. The cost is $315,000, which includes equipment that will be installed. A fire paramedic levy will pay for the ambulance.

A group of Portage County social justice groups are inviting residents to attend a series of public forums meant to highlight and solve local health disparities.
Thanks to Tom Hardesty for sharing his fond memories of the Kent Community Store. I remember shopping there when I moved to Kent in 1985 and also have fond memories. But my fonder memories are of Kent Community Store’s founder, the late George Hoffman, who was a close family friend. I met him in the mid 1990s through our sons, who have been best friends since preschool.
Kelly’s Grief Center in Kent is offering support groups for people who have lost a loved one to accidental overdose, perinatal mortality, suicide and homicide.

When I saw my old Portage County friend Chas Madonio will give a talk at the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library about the music scene in Kent in the 1960s and ’70s, I immediately reserved seats at the event for my wife and myself.
Solon resident David Eder was driving in Oakwood, Ohio, near Dayton, with a couple of friends when they came upon a deer that had been hit by another vehicle. It was still alive, but its injuries proved fatal, and the animal died as the young men watched.
In 2022, the Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities rebranded DD Awareness Month to DD Pride Month. Awareness wasn’t enough. The board members and major stakeholders in the community wanted March to be about celebrating everybody’s ability and uniqueness.

So I found myself between jobs — I always thought that was a euphemism for unemployed and planning to stay that way. But no, I was literally between jobs. I no longer worked at my former position and had a week off before my new one started. I would rather have had time off in July so Dave and I would have a full 9 nine days at our camper, but hey, time off is time off — even in February.

Paris adopted a resolution for a speed study for Gilbert Road from state Route 225 all the way over to the county line on the other side of the township.

The township will be getting a new website. The trustees voted to change the domain name to nelsonTWPOH.gov to take advantage of .gov services, per Cihan’s recommendation. The new site should be accessible by next week.
