This week we will have five area open mics to consider. Sunday the action begins at the Euro Gyro in beautiful downtown Kent at 107 St. Depeyster St. The Host is Nick Fleming. The action starts at 8 p.m. This open mic is for stand-up comedy and music (comedy is seven minutes and music is three songs).
Each year the dog warden’s office targets various areas of the county, knocking on doors to see if residents have a dog. If they do but have not purchased a license for that pet, the canvassers will offer one for $15 plus a $15 late fee.

The Mountain Rose Concert Series returned to Kent after a lengthy hiatus with a live, in-person performance Sunday night, March 6. For many years the folk music series took place in Fred Fuller Park, but now has moved to a new location, the Standing Rock Cultural Arts center on North Water Street.
Affordable housing seems to be a non-issue in Kent and Portage County. The development at the former KSU golf course is building homes starting at $300,000?

Franklin Township has accepted a deal to give up about 175 acres — the site of a proposed Davey Tree expansion — to the City of Kent in exchange for a portion of property taxes over the next 13 years.

There is a stigma surrounding mental health, even now, that people with such issues are emotionally weak, maybe coddled too much in their childhood and can’t adapt to the harsh realities of the real world, and they need to suck it up and put their big britches on.

Residents of the City of Kent have expressed concern about the pay range of a recent job posting by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. The job, a seasonal parks maintenance position, offered a wage of between $9.79 and $11.78 an hour.
When ever I’m invited to speak, whether at a special program, a class, or a church group, I’m
often asked to provide a short bio to include in advertisements, program notes, or for the MC
to use in their introduction. I hate writing my own bio. I’m always afraid that I’ll sound
conceited on one hand, or under qualified on the other. But today I’m going to take a risk and
tell you a bit about myself.
On Monday, we reported that the Stow Street bridge in Kent is being narrowed until county engineers have a chance to evaluate and possibly patch up some minor degradation. But the Stow Street span wasn’t the only roadway flagged in the Portage County Engineer’s Office’s annual inspection last fall.
