A judge has ordered a sheriff’s sale for the tower under construction at the corner of Franklin and Erie streets in Kent after a dispute between the owner and a crane rental firm that claims over $90,000 in unpaid bills.

Thomas Hardesty was re-elected. Mayor Rick Patrick appointed council members to their roles for the year. All of Mayor Patrick’s appointments were approved by roll call.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Bertram at 7 p.m. with a moment of silent prayer/meditation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Chris Szell was unanimously chosen to retain the position of council president.
Legislation was passed that is going to repave some of the streets in Ravenna. A Surface Transportation Block grant from the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study will pay for 80% of the project.

The city has four car washes and 10 places where people might find a bed. Compare that with five car washes in Kent, four in Brimfield, three each in Ravenna and Aurora, and one each in Mantua, Windham and Garrettsville.
CARE (Children Always Resisting Enemies) of Portage County is looking for donations and especially needs a bus or large (15-passenger) van for transportation.
Several recent books give us characters we can follow from childhood to maturity, letting us really get to know them.
I have always admired and respected how trustees and residents of Freedom Township honor their heritage and historic buildings — and how they support, create and involve themselves in community events. For me, they are THE MODEL for townships and trustee governance.

Under normal circumstances, a new Kent State football coach is tasked with dragging a forlorn Golden Flashes program from the dark, musty corners of the Mid-American Conference basement and into college football’s radiant light of day.
Rocked by a court ruling that a barn on her property was built without proper permits, a Freedom Township business owner sees her options dwindling.

Fiscal Officer Julia Pemberton called the meeting to order and began with a list of motion requests for key organizational roles and items for the 2023 year.

This meeting began with interaction between the trustees and visitors at the meeting. Three people were introduced and spoke briefly with the trustees, often with the trustees asking specific questions of visitors or providing information to them.

“The present fire station is super old. Some of it dates back into the 1920s,” township Trustee Chris Diehl said. “The building is just getting dilapidated. Times are changing, and we need to have better living quarters for full-time firemen with separate bathrooms, showers and all of that stuff.”

Township employees made up the audience. Their annual contracts were unanimously renewed. Holidays for township employees were updated.
Our house has almost literally been turned inside out lately. Since the plumber came and made a lot of our dreams come true, we’ve had our utility room as empty as we could get it. Cupboards that were supposed to be mounted on the walls, but never got that far, now sit on the back porch. They’re joined by nearly everything else we had stashed in hidey-holes. I haven’t been able to find anything in months.
