State-funded demolitions throughout Portage County will make way for new development

The Ohio Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program approved 17 projects in Portage County this month, as a part of its initiative to promote business development and to reduce blight.

By demolishing dilapidated commercial and residential buildings, the program hopes to attract businesses and other investments into the community.

The Portage County Land Reutilization Corporation, or the Portage County Land Bank, received a total of $530,805 for the site revitalization projects across the county.

The land bank is a nonprofit organization that works with local governments to rehabilitate properties and sell them back to the community. It was created in 2012 by the Portage County Board of Commissioners to help combat the housing crisis.
