Around Ravenna: All things spring

Big news – Karen’s Hair Design is relocating! Karen is moving her beauty salon to the Medical Arts Building at 6693 N. Chestnut St., across from Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. She plans to move when remodeling is completed around May-ish.

She is not going out of business, it’s “just time to downsize,” she said. Karen has been at her current location on the corner of West Main and King streets for 30 years.

Also, she will have the same girls working and doing the same services. So everyone will know Telsa Croop, Makayla Moneypenny, Kristen Williams, Jackie Ruiz and, of course, Karen Croop.

You know how busy they are, so make your appointment early by calling 330-296-4115.

Just a reminder: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1055, located at 6000 New Milford Rd. in Ravenna, hosts bingo the first and third Thursday nights of the month. Doors open at 5 p.m., and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. Concessions are available.

Also, the Immaculate Conception Hall has spaghetti dinners on the third Thursday of the month in April and May. Dinners include spaghetti, meatballs, salad, beverage and pie. Cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 12, and free for children 4 and younger.

So if you want a good spaghetti dinner, stop in at the hall on West Spruce Avenue in Ravenna. See you there.

The Auxiliary of University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, along with The Chestnut Tree gift shop, is hosting a “Spring Cleaning Sale” from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 23, 24 and 25. Watch for the signs on the first floor of the hospital.

They will be selling baskets, pots, small tables and so much more.

It will be a crafter’s dream for fixtures. Let your imagination run wild and repurpose these items.

The money will be used to help pay the commitment the auxiliary made to the hospital.

The Thursday Literary Club will be celebrating 100 years of reading (1924-2024) from 2 to 4 p.m. May 11. The event will be held in the Haymaker Room at Reed Memorial Library in Ravenna.

The event is open to the public as we all stroll through the decades of “A Century of Thursday Literary Club.”

I hope to see you there as we are all invited to join the group.

A couple good rummage sales are coming up in the area: from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the First Church of God at 237 New Milford Rd. in Ravenna; and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 26 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Rootstown Church of Hope (formerly Rootstown United Methodist Church) at 4065 state Route 44.
