Documenter’s Notes
An efficient trustee meeting followed a brief zoning update regarding occupancy at the Turnpike Commerce Center (TCC) on State Route 44. Zoning Inspector Greg Benner reported that Viega, a Germany-based pipe company, will occupy 180,000 square feet of the new industrial complex. Benner had initial mockups of the Viega build-out.
Zoning
Benner held the floor as the trustees moved on to their regular meeting. He reported granting two accessory building permits. Benner notified the board of upcoming zoning variances which will be revisited in future meetings.
Roads
Road department employee Lloyd Harper reported parking issues by hunters on Babcock Road. Chair Frank Ruehr stated the issue was difficult to resolve, citing fiscal responsibility for towing and storage of vehicles. Harper also inquired about health insurance. Ruehr stated that he expected no significant changes.
New Business
Trustee Ron Kostkowski reported that he had received new windows for the historical society building and that the installer would bill the township by the hour. The project has been funded by grant monies. Kostkowski discussed the possibility of insulating at the garage before the end of the year. He also submitted prices for two pavilions and a gazebo at Shalersville Park, also funded by grants. Kostkowski expected concrete quotes for the proposed structures to arrive the following day. There was discussion about traffic in the park facility.
Ruehr gave an update on the purchase of an electric township sign, an expense of $23,513, and he reported receiving a quote of $8,500 for an electrical update at the township building. Ruehr wanted the official minutes to reflect the township’s gratitude to Patrick O’Malia, Streetsboro’s economic development director, for O’Malia’s effort in the Viega deal.
The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
