Documenter’s Notes

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Organizational meeting minutes from Jan. 4, 2024 were approved, followed by meeting minutes from Jan. 8, 2024. Council entered executive session at 7:03 p.m. to discuss the acquisition of real property.

Mayor’s Report

Following the executive session, Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin asked for council’s support for ORD 2023-187, the city’s annual budget. Womer Benjamin congratulated the city’s road crew for its work that allowed Aurora to be one of the only schools in the area to remain open during the recent snow. The mayor also reported that a pair of traffic light maintenance issues were being addressed.

Legislation

Council President George Horvat asked that council add ORDs 2024-07, 08, 09 and 10 to the evening’s agenda. Council approved the president’s request. The annual budget was approved. Prior to approval, Council Member Brad Duguay, representing Ward 1, requested future consideration for sidewalk connectivity along Route 43. Council authorized the mayor to contract with Ahola HR for four years at a cost not to exceed $60,000 annually. Annual software and technology purchases were approved in the amount of $160,327 through L Tech Solutions, Ltd. Current replacement pages of the Aurora Codified Ordinances were also adopted. Annual employee salary increases were adopted. A contract amendment reflecting a 2% increase in the base salary of the law director was adopted. Victor Baerman’s mayoral appointment to the PARTA Board of Trustees was confirmed by council. The mayor’s appointment of the members of the charter review commission were also confirmed.

The meeting adjourned at 7:32 p.m.

Aurora The groundbreaking ceremony for Aurora Park at Geauga Lake took place Oct. 23. The city purchased approximately 47 acres of lakefront property at the former SeaWorld site from Industrial Commercial Properties in 2024. “It was a great event,” Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin said of the event that drew 50 to 60 people. Because a section of the park spills over into Bainbridge Township, the Bainbridge Trustees had to approve Aurora’s preliminary design plan for the park, which they did. […]

New charity forms to support Aurora Food Pantry

The Aurora VFW Post 2629 and the Knights of Columbus Council 14186 have been purchasing food for the Aurora Food Pantry for several years, donating over $36,000 of perishable food yearly as one of their community projects. But the need for assistance is growing.
