The Portage County Prosecutor’s Office and Engineer’s Office both recommended that the township retract the resolution accepting the bid from Specialized Construction and instead pass a resolution to accept the bid from Ronyak Paving.
Supervisor Matota has had “no luck” finding a part-time employee to join his department. He also said that the county has two open positions for drivers and has received no applicants as well.
Before its regular meeting, the Deerfield Township Board of Trustees held a brief public hearing for the town’s budget for the year 2023. The total amount budgeted is $1,279,420.74.
There is a family claiming a loved one of theirs was laid to rest in the mausoleum at Grandview Cemetery in 2015 and wants to know the location of the loved one’s remains. Superintendent Ray Taylor has been unsuccessful in locating any records of the deceased but is working to get the family answers. Taylor indicated he has been working on locating the individual for years.
An electric vehicle charging station is coming soon to Garrettsville. There was an idea to memorialize Tom Collins because of his work for the EV station. There were no objections to this.

Fire Chief Mark Garvin is hoping the township will purchase new flooring for the fire station. The board asked that the chief supply it with color samples and a cost.
Finance Director Matt Miller updated the body on the city’s finances. Spending from the general fund is at 39%, with the goal being only 33%. Overall, however, the city’s spending is down. Revenue has increased, with the city being up $350,000.
Fiscal Officer Kevin Cihan reported that currently the Township has $651,299.51 in funds. A second check from the American Rescue Plan is expected. Outgoing payments reported totaled $28,014.27, and the Township took in $5,708.73 over the last month.
