Over the past few months, I have shared with you a variety of discounts that are available to senior citizens in Portage County. Here in our own county, there are some “free” services that we may never think of. Well, not really free … our tax dollars at work. At least when you need the service, it is free.

A Palmyra resident filed a federal lawsuit against Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski last month alleging the sheriff and his subordinates retaliated against him for creating a social media page critical of the sheriff’s office.

Negativity seems to be rampant in these uncertain times and can feel quite overwhelming. While social media can be a great way to stay connected to people, it is also a purveyor of negativity. Many studies have proven that choosing to consume a diet rich in negativity can be harmful to one’s mental health.

June 1, 1875, was a big day for Kent. Marvin Kent, the man for whom the city is named, opened the Erie Depot in the hopes of attracting trains, business and industry.

To help those youths, Portage County Juvenile Court took on a new team member: Ravioli, a three-year-old Goldendoodle trained to provide comfort and emotional support to youths participating in Unity Court.
