In an emergency meeting Nov. 29, two of Brimfield’s three trustees voted to accept the county recycling center’s offer for curbside residential pickup service. The deadline for communities to accept or decline the contract was Dec. 1.

Aurora isn’t alone, my children attend St Joseph School in Randolph, and there was a COVID outbreak in the pre-school as of last Thursday. Both our kids have it , with minor symptoms. One preschool and the other in kindergarten. There was no larger notification that I’m aware of, and likely the entire school was completely exposed with no action taken that I can tell.

Backyard chickens are now welcome in Shalersville, provided certain conditions are met.

With a small investment in new equipment, Nelson Township trustees say they will be able to provide nicer roads for less money in the years to come. Instead of paying companies to chip and seal the township’s 24.5 miles of roads, the trustees decided to buy their own road equipment.

A referendum on whether Kent should erase criminal penalties for possessing up to 200 grams of marijuana will likely go before voters after the Portage County Board of Elections validated 13 more votes in a contested ballot initiative.

A ballot initiative to decriminalize recreational marijuana in the city of Kent is not quite dead. On Friday the Portage County Board of Elections directed its staff to review three “part-petitions” containing a total of 59 signatures prior to the board’s next meeting on Nov. 23.

Three Portage County police chiefs fielded questions from residents Thursday about police policies around use of force, community oversight and mental health crisis intervention. 

Brimfield Township broke ground on an $8.2 million fire station that trustees hope will get them through the foreseeable future. The project is underway near the intersection of state Routes 18 and 43.
