Open mics for the week of April 25

- Jeff Gambone ,

The week of April 25 brings us two choices for our open mic entertainment.

On Tuesday, head to 1947 W. Market St. in Akron for the open mic night at the Mercedes Tavern hosted by John Markovich. This event begins at 7 p.m. with signups at 6:30 p.m. Great atmosphere with good music and friends to meet or make.

And on Thursday at the Divine Restaurant located at 2752 Hudson Drive in Cuyahoga Falls is an open mic hosted by Landon Kearns. The fun starts at 8 p.m. Food, spirits and music are all available. Please check this one out.

Coming in May there will be a new open mic starting at the Outpost Concert Club in Brimfield. Weather permitting, it will be held on the new outdoor stage and will be hosted by the R & D Duo (Richard and Doug). This will be different in that not only will it be outside, but it will also be on a Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to this one.

Also, if you run an open mic or are planning to start an open mic, please contact us and we will add you to our schedule.

This week, I’d like to spotlight host BC Hudson

BC brings a soulful laid back approach to his open mic, and he also hosts an Acoustic Open Jam night held at the Venice Café in downtown Kent on Wednesdays (check the open mic event page for actual dates). BC began playing at the onset of the British Invasion of the 1960s. Primarily a singer/songwriter and studio musician, BC has released four Blues albums: “On the Edge,” “Jaded Heart,” “Wash My Soul” and “Everyday Blues.” BC has performed all over the northeast in blues festivals, including the Kent Blues Fest, Canton Blues Fest and the Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival. So come on out on Wednesdays and say hi to BC and be part of some very entertaining open mic and jam nights.

Around Ravenna: Warm up with these community events coming up this month

- by Angie Reedy. - by The 39th annual Celebration of Lights was held in December at the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, hosted by the hospital’s Auxiliary. It was a successful evening and the committee wants to thank everyone who came, donated money or helped in any way for their participation, and especially Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes for its sponsorship.
