Like many of you, in the late fall and early winter of 2020, we watched and waited as life came to a standstill and uncertainty became the new norm. We watched the news and wondered how bad it was going to get, how many lives would be lost to or forever changed by the Covid-19 pandemic. We had seen the long lines of folks waiting for boxes of groceries in other states on television and knew that the need must be here in our own community. We had to do something about it. It was in this moment that Rural Relief Mobile Food Pantry was born.
If I don’t like the characters in a novel, I usually don’t care what happens to them. But I love the characters in “The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell” by Robert Dugoni, and consequently, I eagerly followed their escapades.
The steering committee for a proposed housing development on Kent State land will require developers to follow the same zoning regulations as a nearby neighborhood, if the project happens at all, officials said at a community meeting Monday.
As a Franklin Township resident, I’m frustrated but not surprised by the issues with the Solid Waste District. We went from weekly collections to every other week, from small containers that were convenient for those of us with really long driveways to massive containers that were impractical eyesores.

In Ravenna, Eddie Mae Prisby spends her days doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. Her personality, so full of life, keeps her going as she enthusiastically turns 100 years old.
The Portage County Retired Teachers Association awards grants supporting innovative ideas in the classroom and in schools. The grant committee received 20 applications for the 2022 awards. Four proposals were chosen to receive $500 toward their projects.

The Ravenna Township location of Rivers Garage and Body Shop is going up for auction on Dec. 15 and 16, following the closure of the Portage County staple in May.

Ravenna police arrested two individuals, apparently both students, after school yesterday for having a gun on the campus of Maplewood Career Center, Superintendent Randy Griffith said in an email to the school community early this morning.
Three developers from Northeast Ohio and Pittsburgh are currently working on concept proposals for Kent State’s proposed intergenerational village project, the university announced in an email to Kent community members on Monday.
Kimble Recycling & Disposal will be handling both Hiram village and township recycling as the Portage County Solid Waste Management District did not pursue a contract with these communities.
The Randolph Lions Club looking for members. The club provides fellowship and benefits the community as a whole.
