Construction will begin on a new Silica Sand Road bridge

The Silica Sand Road bridge in Nelson and Windham townships is about to be replaced. Construction on the $1,084,460 project will start this month, and the new bridge structure and accompanying road work are expected to be completed by October.

The bridge is located about 400 feet east of the intersection of Parkman Road and Silica Sand Road over Eagle Creek. A detour for the bridge closure will be posted for motorists and also on the Portage County Engineer’s website.

The Portage County Board of Commissioners opened bids for the project in March and awarded the contract to Winters Excavating LLC of Stow. The county engineer’s office obtained a federal grant that will cover nearly the entire cost of the project.

Residents can direct questions to project manager Mike Collins or bridge engineer Bill Vermes at 330-296-6411.
