Aurora The groundbreaking ceremony for Aurora Park at Geauga Lake took place Oct. 23. The city purchased approximately 47 acres of lakefront property at the former SeaWorld site from Industrial Commercial Properties in 2024. “It was a great event,” Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin said of the event that drew 50 to 60 people. After a failed attempt earlier in the spring, the Streetsboro City Schools is aiming to pass a continuing operating levy for regular expenses during the Nov. 4 election.
Streetsboro City Schools has a levy on the ballot and I hope people will vote to support the levy. I completely understand that the additional tax can be quite a burden on some folks, so I want to make sure people understand some important points regarding the levy and school funding.
In development news, O’Malia said that 717 Credit Union had taken over the vacant Walgreens. He also announced that O’Hooligan’s barber and tattoo shop was planning a soft opening in November.
The school is in the final stages of creating a girls flag football team through a program sponsored by the Cleveland Browns. The NFL team would be paying for all expenses except transportation.
At the start of the meeting, Erick Ritz was sworn in as a member of Streetsboro’s police department, as well as three part-time firefighters, Patrick Bergen, Jacob Boon and Joshua Strunk. A resolution to recognize Eileen Fitzsimmons for her service to Streetsboro’s community and parks was passed.

Aurora The City of Aurora purchased a bit more property to add to its park property at Geauga Lake. “Our new park that we’re building has a small residential street right along its border called Fairview Avenue,” Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin said. “We have, during the last year, purchased some property on Fairview, and council recently approved the city buying three vacant lots on Fairview. Benjamin Memorial Golf Outing” in memory of longtime Chamber board member David M. Benjamin, who passed away last year.
