Aurora truck supply company backs away from Kent land purchase

An Aurora-based trucking supply company is no longer pursuing acquisition of 15.5 acres at 200 W. Williams St. in Kent, the real estate firm listing the property said Friday.
Mytee Products had been considering buying the land and a few mostly unused buildings on it for a warehousing and distribution depot. Colliers Vice President Ed Matzules told The Portager the company was considering expanding its operations while retaining its Aurora headquarters.
A Mytee Products representative declined comment as to why the company stopped pursuing the deal.
The property was once used by the Atlantic and Great Western Railroad as a base for maintenance and for building passenger cars and boxcars.
Hometown Bank has owned the property since 2021, when Nypano Co., which had intended to erect a hotel on part of it, ceased operations and lost the land. The acreage includes three old railroad buildings, all erected in the mid-1850s, but which have been significantly altered since then.
Currently occupying part of the property is Davey Drill, which rents one of the old railroad buildings.
Colliers has the 15.5-acre property listed for $1.7 million.
The property is part of Kent’s Historic South End neighborhood. Doria Daniels, who chairs the
Historic South End Association, told city officials in an email that she welcomed a new venture and “the opportunity for jobs it will bring.”
But she cautioned that she hopes any business would “observe the neighborhood street access restrictions regarding no thru trucks on various street signs and demonstrate consideration for the neighborhood residential and elementary school areas.”
