In a recent column I “complained” that there were not enough services available for Portage County seniors. I have to eat my words now because there is financial assistance available to individuals 60 years or older with a yearly income of about $42,000.

Construction of Kent’s new city hall is on track and the building should be open in July, said city Service Director Melanie Baker.

Spectrum will expand broadband in rural Portage County with federal funding

During an event on Jan. 25, representatives from Charter Communications, which goes by the brand name Spectrum, announced that the service expansion will reach more than 290 homes and small businesses in Portage County. The new lines will carry internet, TV, mobile and voice services.
Streetsboro temporarily bans Airbnbs and other short-term rentals in new zoning laws
Streetsboro’s Jan. 22 revamp of its zoning code has the city banning personal vacation rentals like Airbnbs, at least for now.

Newton Falls Road Bridge to reopen this spring

Repair work is set to begin on the Newton Falls Road Bridge just east of Holcomb Road. The bridge was closed in early December 2023, and the county expects to complete repairs and reopen the bridge by this spring.
