This time of year, many growers are cursing the overly prolific weeds. However, some master gardeners view weeds as an opportunity to ingest highly nutritious greens, flowers, seeds, and roots.

The Portage Foundation is offering financial resources to the county’s LGBT community through a fund created after a new law forced campuses to close centers devoted to scholarships and emergency assistance.
Acknowledging that his request is “last-resort” advocacy, Portage County District Library director Jonathan Harris has sent a plea and a promise directly to Governor Mike DeWine’s desk.

Aurora’s annual Independence Day celebration will take place on Friday, July 4. There will be a full day of activities, entertainment and family fun. The day will begin with the Fun Run 1 Mile and 5K at Bicentennial Park. The 1 Mile starts at 8 a.m. followed by the 5K at 8:30 a.m. Registration is available in advance at runsignup.com with Early Bird pricing ending June 20. Walk-up registration will open at 7 a.m. on race morning.
