Around Garrettsville: Fall Festival and Oktoberfest join forces

- Jackie Loreta-Rinearson

The Garrettsville Fall Fest merged into the Garrettsville Oktoberfest, and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 it will be held in downtown Garrettsville. There will be accordion music from noon until 2 p.m., with local restaurants serving up some traditional Oktoberfest foods such as Oktoberfest beer, kielbasa sandwiches, hasenpfeffer with potatoes, schnitzel, kraut balls and pretzels at Garrett’s Mill, with Slim & Jumbo’s offering wurst platters and schnitzel. The Eagles Club will offer wurst, cabbage and potato pancake platters. Slim & Jumbo’s will offer music by Patty C & The Guys from 2 to 5 p.m. and the Mike Wojtila Band from 6 to 9 p.m. Come down and view the vendors from noon to 4 p.m.

The Nelson Garrettsville Community Food Cupboard is hosting its annual murder mystery fundraiser at Sugar Bush Golf Club on Saturday, Oct. 4. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the murder starting at 5 p.m. The Murder at the Slurp & Burp Oktoberfest is a fundraiser for the food cupboard, with the murder mystery performed by Curtains up Theatre. Tickets are on sale now at the YMCA and the Villager Emporium. Dinner will consist of Sophie’s Pierogies of Cleveland, bratwurst, chicken, potato salad and additional German fare. There will be a cash bar.

Tickets for the event are $35 per person or $60 per couple, and this includes dinner and the murder mystery experience. This annual fundraiser is for the NGCC to provide families with support during winter months. For more information, call 330-527-2011.

A portion of the proceeds from the Sip n Shop on Main event is being put to good use. Thank you to Pochedly Greenhouses for providing us with the beautiful fall decorations, which will decorate Main Street once again. Watch for the mums, pumpkins, scarecrows and cornstalks to be coming this week. Thank you to Sherri Collins and Larry Hermann for placing the decorations around.

The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre has announced that for its 20th anniversary in January 2026, it will do a production of “The Phantom of the Opera” by Gene Traylor. This is the non-musical adaptation from the book. Permission is provided through The Dramatic Publishing Company. Auditions will be coming in November, with the show dates coming soon.
