Hey folks,
As the fall colors engulf us in a myriad of beauty, there are lots of great musical happenings this coming week.
The Water Street Tavern continues its Friday evening music series as it welcomes Brent Kirby and Andy Leach this Friday, Oct. 16. Brent and Andy are the founding members of the Cleveland-based band New Soft Shoe, which pays tribute to the music of country rock pioneer Gram Parsons. They have been serving up this cosmic country music for nearly 15 years now, and are well worth the effort to get out and hear live.
Local steel guitar player Al Moss (one of my favorite steel players!) served up the steel guitar for many years in New Soft Shoe. Al is one of the pioneering members of the infamous Hillbilly Idol and a fantastic songwriter and guitarist, as I'm sure many of you know!
And while we are speaking of Hillbilly Idol, their original bass player extraordinaire, Bill Watson, is the most recent guest of Marylin DeFrange on her new podcast series, the HomeSong Podcast. Here is a link to it and some bio on Bill:
"This month's featured guest is Bill Watson. Bill talks about his young start in music with the ukulele, the trumpet and the tuba. He tells the story of his transition from Lake County to Kent and his beginnings with a bartender at Ray's in 1978. His first experiences in the Numbers Band made a strong impression on him. His musical journey and current involvement in numerous other local groups are also discussed."
I've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Bill many times. He is a great musician and an even better human being. 🙂
Cheers,
Mike D
