Charlestown will hold its Memorial Day Parade May 30 starting from the fire station

Charlestown Township’s Memorial Day Parade is a go this year. The parade will be held at 11 a.m. May 30, starting off from the fire department at Rock Spring and Newton Falls roads and proceeding to Charlestown Township Cemetery, where there will be a short ceremony.

Since the parade route is only about three minutes long, trustees encourage children with bicycles to decorate them in a patriotic theme and join in. Prizes will be awarded, and all participants will receive ribbons. Floats are welcome.

At the cemetery there will be a roll call of all veterans dating back to the Revolutionary War, as well as an honor guard which will provide a 21-gun salute. Major Shaun T. Robinson, Garrison Commander for the Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center, will be the speaker.

No political campaigning is appropriate as this event: It’s all about the veterans.

New township website

Trustee Adam Eskridge is working on a new township website at www.charlestowntownship.com. The website will likely go live in a week or so, and will feature township news and meeting minutes. There will also be a link to Open Checkbook, which will allow residents to track the previous year’s expenses down to the penny.
