The SummerFest committee has been very busy. There are many fun things to do on Friday, June 28 through Sunday, June 30.

The St. Ambrose’s 64th Chicken Dinner Festival is coming June 29 and 30 at St. Ambrose Church in the hall downstairs. Come out and enjoy the music, games and delicious chicken dinners. Dinners served noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, 10692 Freedom St., Garrettsville.

Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors.

The dinner includes open pit barbecue half chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes/gravy, roll and dessert. The event also features a Chinese auction, cash raffle, corporate raffle, big wheel, Bingo and live entertainment: Bluegrass — Ohio Crossroads — Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Polka Mass Saturday at 4 p.m. featuring the Wayne Tomsic Band. Enjoy their music from 6 to 8 p.m.


Sip N Shop on Main Street is a wine tasting/craft/artisan show on Main Street in Garrettsville from noon to 8 p.m. July 27. We are currently looking for crafters interested in participating in this fun event. Come out and listen to music, sip wine (in the designated DORA area) and sell your crafts.

Profits from this event will be put toward the Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification of Garrettsville Fund.

It is time for the Car Cruises. The following are the dates for the remaining cruises:

June 22 at the Sky Plaza with music by Dennis Chandler

July 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. back on Main Street with music by the Blue Cadillac Band

Aug. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. Roger Angel Memorial Car Cruise and the Peach Social location is at the Fire Station. Music will be performed by Dennis Chandler.

On Sept. 2 from noon to 6 p.m. will be the Zach Peterson Memorial Car Cruise at Nelson Ledges Race Track


The 100-year-old Time Capsule event is being held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 6. Come out and enjoy the fun all day with the opening of the 100-year-old capsule beginning at noon.

9 a.m. – Historical Tours of Garrettsville begin

11 a.m. – Piano & Music from the Decades

Noon – Time Capsule opening event begins – including the Garrettsville song

1:30 p.m. – Beard Growing Contest Winners announced

All day events will include Antique Car, Farm, and Fire Equipment Display and the Historic Garrettsville Artifacts Display, plus the Garrettsville Masonic Lodge will be open for tours.

“I was there” T-shirts and “History of Garrettsville” books will be available along with refreshments.


The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre is proud to present “Steel Magnolias,” sponsored by Jeff Rinearson Health Insurance. The show runs July 12, 13,19 and 20 at 7 p.m. with July 14 being the 1 p.m. matinee.

All productions will be held in the Iva Walker Auditorium inside the James A. Garfield Middle School.

Tickets are available at the door: $10 for adults, $8 for seniors over 65 and children under 12 and $5 per person for groups of 15 or more for the same day.
