The Charlestown Historical Society gathered recently for its annual Christmas party. The hostess for the evening was Patty Eskridge, the president, and her husband Jim Eskridge, former longtime Charlestown trustee.

They welcomed us into their home where we enjoyed delicious food and reminisced about the formation of the society back in March of 2010. The Society currently meets irregularly but if anyone is interested, my contact information is listed below and I’ll be happy to answer any questions.

Charlestown has produced some amazing people and Dr. Caitlin Kelly, D.O. is one of them.

Caitlin is currently completing her residency in Emergency Medicine at Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She has already accepted a position with Mid Ohio Emergency Services (MOES) in Columbus and will begin there in September as an attending physician. MOES provides emergency medicine physicians to three hospitals in the Columbus area. Proud parents, Dennis and Eileen Kelly are happy she will be a little closer to home in the fall.

Caitlin loves to travel and in 2023 she did just that. She went on a three-week solo trip to Australia and New Zealand with stops in Sydney and Cairns, AUS and both the North and South Islands in New Zealand. Highlights in Australia include holding a koala (a lifelong dream) and swimming with sea turtles in the Great Barrier Reef. New Zealand highlights include a 440-foot bungee jump in Queenstown, learning about Maori culture and the Hobbiton tour. Caitlin became obsessed with Thai red curry and said Thai food is so delicious there. She had to pack for all four seasons because temperatures ranged from 30-90 Fahrenheit, and she did it all in one carry-on bag!

Caitlin also attended Lollapalooza in Chicago and went to Las Vegas for Twitchon. She ended 2023 and began 2024 with a trip to Merida, Mexico. Now that is what I call an amazing year and an amazing young woman.

The Charlestown Activity Committee will have its first meeting of the year to begin planning the 2024 township events. Anyone interested in joining the committee may attend on Monday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall.
