State Rep. Gail Pavliga said a bill that would have turned much of Shalersville into a hub airport for Northeast Ohio will not move forward, according to a summary of a discussion with local Republicans.

The City of Kent will receive a $331,000 state grant to clean up the site of the former Triangle Cleaners to make way for eventual new development.

Jay Zucherro, 50, grew up in Kent and has served in the area as a carpenter for 30 years. For the past five years he’s been spending his time turning his woodworking hobby into a business he calls Jayz Timberworks.
Kent Roosevelt Environmental Club heads to the state Envirothon competition

The Roosevelt Environmental Club won the Area 2 Envirothon Competition this past Thursday at Kent State’s Salem campus. The Envirothon is an environmental and natural resource conservation problem-solving, teambuilding and leadership experience and competition for high school students across the United States, Canada and China.
KSU Orchestra Society celebrated its 50th anniversary at this year’s ‘Evening with the Orchestra’

After a two-year hiatus during the pandemic, nearly 340 community residents, faculty and musicians of Kent State University gathered for a gala evening of fun and fundraising — the 45th “Evening with the Orchestra,” which benefits the students in the KSU Orchestra at the Hugh A. The Perfect Pet of Portage photo contest is back for another year. Owners can nominate their pets and vote to name the Perfect Pet of Portage County. Proceeds from the competition will benefit the Portage Park District Foundation and the Madonio Animal Trust.
