A new plant shop is coming to downtown Kent

- Staff Report ,

Flourish Plant Mkt. will open its first brick-and-mortar storefront at 113 S. Water St. on Saturday, October 28.

In addition to selling plants, pots and other accessories, the shop hopes to foster community and educate plant owners of all experience levels to help their flora thrive (or flourish, if you will). The physical space will be used to host classes and workshops.

“We are excited to make Kent our home,” said Flourish owner Alicia Hall. “Our new space will give us the opportunity to partner with even more local makers and add additional products to our inventory.”

The store hours for opening weekend will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Flourish is celebrating the opening with 15% off purchases during opening weekend to all new and existing newsletter subscribers. Their website is here.

“We’re looking forward to growing our offerings of classes and workshops in our new space,” Hall said.

Varner: Maddalena’s in Kent offers authentic food, at-home feel

- by Simon Varner. - by Do you remember going to grandma’s house for a family dinner? The way it smelled, the way the adults chatted while you and the other kids laughed in front of a TV playing colorful cartoons. Most importantly, do you remember the food? I remember, and Mandy Yannucci, co-owner of Maddalena’s in Kent, remembers, too.
