Portage County will repave parts of Tallmadge and New Milford roads this summer

- Staff Report ,

About 11 miles of road in Ravenna, Rootstown and Edinburg will be under construction from May through August, affecting about 2,800 drivers per day.

Portage County commissioners awarded the $2.4 million contract — the largest ever for a street resurfacing project — to the Stow-based Karvo Companies.

The work will include repaving Tallmadge Road, from state Route 44 to Alliance Road, and New Milford Road, from Tallmadge road to the state Route 5 bypass. Those sections were last repaved between 2002 and 2005, County Engineer Michael Marozzi said in a project summary.

The county engineer’s office received a $1.8 million grant from the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study to offset most of the cost. The rest of the total will come out of the office’s budget, which is funded mostly by license plate fees and gas taxes, Chief Deputy County Engineer Larry Jenkins said.

The completion date is set for Aug. 31.
